What we're learning building Conta: Removing friction from Portuguese accounting

Freelancers and independent studio founders in Portugal spend disproportionate mental energy deciphering tax portals, invoice validation routines, and quarterly filing obligations. We built Conta to transform administrative anxiety into quiet clarity.

Bureaucracy is an interaction design failure

Most government and enterprise accounting platforms are mirrors of the underlying database schema: rigid form fields, cryptic validation errors, and zero context on consequence. When an entrepreneur hesitates before submitting an invoice, it is rarely because they do not understand what they earned; it is because the interface provides no reassurance.

In Conta, every workflow begins with plain human language. We automated the extraction of SAF-T documents, mapped Portuguese tax authority rules into deterministic validation pipelines, and designed an interface that feels as calm as a blank sheet of paper.

“Good software does not merely calculate numbers; it absorbs administrative dread.”

Speed as a product feature

Administrative software should never linger on screen. Our target metric for Conta is time-to-completion: creating, issuing, and delivering a compliant invoice should take fewer than fifteen seconds on mobile. By keeping dependencies lean and running validation locally on device, we achieve instantaneous state transitions.
